I was hoping to get some feedback from some folks who might own or used one of these combo machines. I'm typically an old iron fan and recently saw one of these Jet combo machines and was wondering if some of the owners of these machines could share their thoughts/opinions on how they like them. I'm preparing for a complete shop overhaul and thinking of parting with my Delta 8" jointer to save some floor space. Thanks for your imput.

Jim.

Bas picked up a Jet JJP-12HH for himself awhile back and it seems like a great machine!

He posted his review of it here ..........

I am assuming that the 10" model is very similar.

The JJP-12HH is indeed a terrific machine, but the 10" (and 8") combo machines are entirely different animals. They're primarily made of aluminum, not cast iron, and use a small universal motor. I don't think it's a bad machine, but it is not a heavy-duty piece of equipment. I suggest you look at the reviews on Amazon. If you expect a typical lunch box planer that can also joint, you'll probably be happy. If you expect a study piece of ol' iron that can handle 8ft boards of hard maple and hog off large chunks of material, you'll probably be disappointed.

+1 on what Bas said. Especially if you already have an 8" jointer (which I'd persume has longer table and sturdier). I have the JJP-12 also and it's a completely different beast than those but it also has a more beastly price tag to go with it.. I'd go take a look at it at one of the local stores like Klingspor or Woodcraft they usually have the smaller 8 and 10 combos on the floor and I believe the Raleigh Klingspor had the JJP 12 on the floor as well. I considered these machines as well and decided against it and I've seen several threads ask for opinions on it and haven't see a lot of feedback on them.

I was thinking about one of these too but my job situation improved so I decided to save up for a 12" version. Not 100% sure yet if it will be a Jet. I am still considering one of the 8" ones as a temporary measure since I sold off my jointer and planer before I switched plans so I am dead in the water where processing lumber goes for projects.
