I would like to upload a pair of files, one is pdf and the other is word. I went to the upload files tab, but it looks like this is a message site. Down below ther are three boxes for linking. I browsed for a file and it appeared to upload, but I do not know how to find it now. Any help?

Did you try the Download Library?

I think that might be the best place for PDF and Word Doc's. You should then be able to link to those in your thread/post.

I must be doing something wrong. I unploaded two files, but when I go to the download library and search on keywords, they do not show up.

When I uploaded, I put in the name of the file, my name, a description of the file and then browsed for the file on my computer. A green bar indicated that it was uploaded.

Bill,

I have not tried to post linked files here but on other sites the best option is to put the files into a ZIP archive. This both keeps them together and reduces the size of the upload/download. As of Windows XP the ability to create ZIP archives and extract files from them is built in to Windows. Simply select one or more files and right click, Choose "Send To|Compressed (Zipped) Folder", and that will create a ZIP archive containing the selected files (The originals will be left where they were).

After you the selected the file and it was uploaded, did you then clicked "Upload File" button? Its another multiple step confusing flow.

After the upload button, you should see a new screen that said "File Successfully Added", then be taken to a page that shows you the file with a big download button.

Also, might be the extension on your files. Make sure they are lowercase "pdf" and/or "doc". That can confuse the software.

That does not answer the quesiton however. How do I get the files onto the website and then be able to find them? Going to the download library and uploading a file is not as straightforward as the NCW site indicates.

in download library, I choose "add file" A screen pops up with "name of file", "description of file", "browse for file" and "add file". I do all of those. Ther eis a progressive green bar a the bottom inidcating an action is in progress. This is very quick. Ther eis no other button to check, and i do not get a new screen showing my uploaded file.

Jim:my files are now in the download library. I was not checking a "category type" and so the files would not upload without that info. I Have done that. Now, I would like to post a thread and have a link to those files. However, in the tread positing filed, there is a option to insert a link to a file, but no option to navigate to the location of those files. How do you insert a link to a pdf in the download library into a specific post?

Looks like things are all set now.

Nothing like a complex solution to a simple problem I always say :)
