Stained Lacquered and set

Complete with custom MDF top (dual purpose temporary and template - did you notice the 8/4 cherry in the background of some of the earlier pictures?)

End view - I went with riased panel ends to dress things up

Very nice cabinet work. I like the way you bumped the center cabinet out with the fluted columns. Very nice in terms design and execution. :eusa_clap

Yeah, what WG said - and that design element carries straight up through the upper cabinets also. Very nice! I wish my cabinets looked that good!

Absolutely, nice design! What wood is that, looks a bit walnuty?

What was the final finish?

It is Walnut with an aniline dye stain (trans tint). I sprayed both the dye and the water based lacquer (Emtech ulitimate spray lacquer). I was also hoping to get some input on the shape of the top. LOML has requested the front corners cut at a 45 degree angle. I currently have it as a gentle curve to match the prep sink counter top.

Both ends of this counter are straight because they meet a wall and cabinet. What do you guys think? I also considered having the shape mirror the shape of the cabinets (straight front, deeper in the middle, 45's over the bevels) but I'm not that thrilled with exposing more end grain, thoughts?

I would go with a serpentine front which would echo the angles without exposing the end grain. Make them a bit shallower than this drawing - bad drawing from "the CAD guy":crybaby2:

Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but is this what you had in mind, DavidF?

But personally, I like the curve. I think it would make for better continuity throughout the room if it mirrors the other counter.

Yes, that would be the general idea, just play with the shape until you like it, but I think it would fit.
