I have spent a lot of time trying to tune my Dewalt DW715 miter saw up, making sure it is squared up to the best of my abilities. However, for the life of me I could not figure out why it always seemed to cut at a slight angle to my cut line. The it hit me! I have been using a cheap carpenters square to strike a cut line and it finally dawned on me to check it for square with my only small 4 inch engineers square I own. It was off the exact amount my cutline was off! I was actually cutting square but it did not look like it.

Lesson learned: Don't always assume its the complex tool that needs tuned, sometimes its the most basic.
