In need of some wood to carve.

I am new to the Durham area and I am looking for some green apple,pear,cherry,etc wood for carving spoons. Any help would be appreciated.

Keep an eye out on the local Craigslist/free section. Both homeowners and tree trimming crews post there. I snagged some nice (I hope) bradford pear that way.
