I am looking for suggestions on hinging a top on a chest.
With apologies for not having a pic available(yet):
The chest is 3/4 stock dadoed into corners 2"x3".
The top is about 16x38, but not yet trimmed to length.
I am wondering whether to keep the top as one piece, or go with two?
Two piece would seem to call for some nice decorative hinges on top or???
If I go with one piece, with a slight overhang all around or on three sides, must the hinges be mounted on the top of the corner members? The dado for the front and back is centered in the 2" demension of the posts.

At the picnic, I recall seeing a small box(DL's?) with barrel hinges. Seemed pretty snazzy! Are these available in a large enough size for something like this?

Is this whole post moot and senseless without a pic???

Well, pictures would help. But for now I can tell you that you can get barrel hinges in larger sizes for 1/2" & 3/4" thick stock. I know that Woodcraft carries them, you will need to get the coresponding size metric drill bit to install them, unless you have it already.
SOSS hinges might be another option to consider

That site also has many many other hinge styles worth checking out.
