Want to make 40" round 2" thk oak table top with milled 2 x 4's pine apron.
Top will not be glued together, rather have a 1/16" gap and pocket holes to apron.
I have made rectangular tables using mortice and tenons, pretty straight forward.
Can't get my head wrapped around using 22.5 degree segments for aprons. they seam too flimsy.
I can accurately cut them, but gluing and holding them in position seems awfully tricky to stay flat.
How does everyone else accomplish this?

Miters are not an inherently strong glued joint - hence the options:
- splines?, dominoes?, biscuits? pocket screws? glued and screwed 'corner' blocks?
There may be other options.

Dominos are probably the best, but a spline made with thin plywood would also be very strong and will insure alignment. Do not use a spline made with a long grain hardwood strip as it has no strength across the joint.

For holding, band clamps work well.

If you want to go cheap, some 1/4" rope and a packer's knot (aka figure eight knot). Look it up and try it.

I use 1/4 Baltic birch for biscuits.
When you cut the individual pieces, leave “ears” on each one so you can clamp them together.. Then cut them off when you have them glued together.
