agreedI would make a distinction on the pine to be clear: it is like working with some white pine not yellow pine. The spruce I have worked with had more knots on average per board than the pine. If I have white pine or poplar for drawer sides I prefer those to the spruce.

Has anyone worked with Hemlock - if so what is it like to work with.
Thank you all for your replies they have all been helpful. I saw an ad for someone in the Bahama area that had Hemlock for sale, I will definitely be checking to see if he has any available.
