Did you get it in Hawaii? I have no idea but it may be a local hardwood and not an import from South America or elsewhere.

Maybe you could consult Robin Clark on Kuai or Emiliano Achival on Maui for local species. Tell them both I said "Hi", please. Nice folks.

Since it is S4S, you can measure it, determine the volume, then weigh it. That should get you in the ball park.

Ipe has a fire resistance rating akin to concrete, and is VERY dense. Be prepared to replace a saw blade or two if you're cutting it.

Not Ipe ... we use it alot here. I thought Bubinga before but it usually is more brown, I keep thinking it must be some kind of rosewood ... but- It is a 2'x2'x1.7 inch block though gotta figure what to do with it as it is begging to be made into something. ;)

Blood diamonds (also called conflict diamonds, brown diamonds, hot diamonds, or red diamonds) are diamonds mined in a war zone and sold to finance an insurgency, an invading army's war efforts, or a warlord's activity.
