Cathy,
That is absolutely lovely... That would go well with my table. lol
How many hours did it take to make it?

The class was about 4 with maybe 3 of it actually working on the bowl. Then another couple at home so I guess about 6. I made a smaller one this weekend and it took considerably less time, the time is probably proportionate to the size. It was nerve-wrecking, but the second was more fun.

Great Work Cathy!

You are further reinforcing my desire to buy that midi-lathe. (I assume that you had used your Jet VS Midi to do the bowl?) Between your beautiful pens, trivets and now bowls, you may want to consider going into business!

Again. Fantastic job!

How exciting! Your bowl looks like you've been turning for years.
You have a lot to be proud of.

Thats a nice job there Cathy, especially for your first work. I like how you have a thin rim at the top.

Did the bug bite you doing this??

A really serious bug bite!!!! I just want to turn another - I even volunteered to be the one who got off work early today (it didn't work but was worth a try  ). I'm on the way to the shop to work on my second one.

Thank you. Yes, it used my Jet VS. I'd love to be able someday to get good enough to have some kind of income from WW'ing, but that's a tall order. Right now I am accumulating boxes of stuff, cool stuff, but stuff just the same! Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement.

Getting off work early to turn bowls, WE HAVE TO TALK.

First they start neglecting family members, and letting the house go. Before you know it they are slamming on brakes in the middle of residential streets and flying out the car with the motor running and the door left wide open to run up to a home owners door madly hammering it with closed fist to ask them "are you gonna use that wood you have piled up out there next to the street?"

Its sad, another good perfectly normal person slipped over to the turning side.

That's too funny. It's not too far from true - we were meeting relatives for dinner in Gaffney and all the way there I was checking out yards where downed trees have been cut up and piled. I was wondering how to ask peoples plans for it and wondering where we could store it to let it dry....

Of course, this evening I turned a potential bowl right into a plate. Oops

Am I sensing that we have the first well-documented case of "Bowl Skipper Disease"?

According to my therapist, whom I saw early last year at the beginning of my onset to "turner's in turmoil syndrome", it lies benign in a hidden gene passed on by prior generations of hard core woodworkers that had gone on to the hard stuff and never were able to shake the grip of this terrible disease.

I will see if I can dig up his phone number he is a specialist at this particularly nasty strain that affects only people predisposed to this genetic inclination.

The questionaire you will have to fill out at his office may alarm you.

A few questions are:

Do you wake up with curly fibrous objects in your bed?

Do you use more klenex that you usually do?

Have you developed calouses on your primary fingertips?

Are you spending grocery money on woodworking tools, especially new high tech wood turning accesories?

Dont be embarrased, answer them honestly. Most people afflicted with this fully recover and go on to lead healthy happy lives once they install sufficient shelving to display their bowls.

Honest, I'm the first in my family with the any predispostion to this disease honest. It can't be acquired through marriage, can it?

Please do find that phone number!

I am impressed, very impressed. I have had a harbor freight lathe for 2 years and have only turned a miniature baseball bat.....

I have avoided the turning addiction many seem to have. Just doesn't seem to be up my alley....
