I had a apple tree blow over this fall and finally got around to carving my First Spoon. I used my Cub Scout knife (I’m 49) and a small gouge for the hollow part. I probably will by a crook knife to finish it out. Not perfect but I like it.
Thanks for looking,
Way to go on your first spoon. It has a nice shape to it and apple wood is very desirable to carve spoons from. I have only recently begun to carve spoons myself having maybe carved a half dozen so far. If you are looking for spoon carving knives check out Pinewood Forge. Del Stubbs is the smith there and they are supposed to be great spoon carving knives. I plan to order some from him soon myself. If you are looking for a cheap sloyd (straight) knife from Amazon I'd recommend the Mora 106. It lists for $24.90 right now. You can get it handled or unhandled and carve your own handle. Keep carving and posting your spoon making progress.
