Filling the Pores in Walnut

What do you use to fill pores in walnut before applying a finish. I want to accent the wood grain and not mute it at all.

I have used rotten stone. Messy, but did the job.

Regular paste wood filler, specifically made for porous woods.

I've been using Timbermate thinned down with water to a very thin consistency. Allow it to dry, sand and reapply a couple more coats before a final sanding with 220 grit. Works well filling the pores.
