Cutting coins, can you? Should you? Is it difficult? These are all questions I will try to answer at the next Sunny Scroller’s meeting. On March 5th, at the Cary Klingspor’s from 2 to 4 pm.

The answer is yes, yes you can!

I will bring examples of what is needed and how to do it. This should be a fun meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Look at the Guatemala's Quetzal coin, it has on the back a Quetzalcoatl bird. Get the older ones they are 70% silver beautiful coin to cut out. Makes a stunning pendant

If people are interested there are several coin cutting groups on Facebook. Many people share free patterns there.

Just be aware and remember to check before you cut! There are some rare coins out there that are worth some $$$$! You don't want to cut for example, a 1943 copper penny or a 1944 Steel penny! Big bucks! ....just sayin'...

I may be mistaken, but cutting US coins is illegal as they are actually owned by the Government. That includes the "coin rolling" machines in some arcades.

Stacey Lee Webber does amazing jewelry and sculptures with cut coins. Her Instagram is 'staceyleewebber'

Most of the work is with pre-zinc (all copper) pennies and pre-clad (all silver) dimes, quarters and silver dollars. No doubt easier to cut with jeweler's saw, but probably easier to silver solder as well.

If Scott is correct about legality she might be public enemy #1 🙂
