Curious to know if there are any types of dyes or stains I can use on wood prior to putting on the finishing?

I have a few boards I would like to make Carolina Panters, Duke, or UNC blue (take your pick) and then finish with Walrus oil or my standard mineral oil and beeswax concoction.

I am sure there are food and safety concerns, I am just not aware of them. Any info would be great.

PS I would also like to see if anyone has some Paduak they can sell me. I need a few smaller boards.

Thanks

I've never used food coloring/dye on wood, but I've heard others have w/ decent results. For the blue, I would try some Easter egg dye.

If these are going to be used to cut meats and vegetables then I'd only use the mineral oil/beeswax finish and no dyes or stains. Food safety is not an overwhelming concern but the boards may get "washed out" with repeated use and cleaning and they'll look trashy.
