We had a crepe myrtle tree that was dying out, so we cut it down earlier this summer. I put it inside to dry out some more and cut off a piece to fit on the small Nova lathe I have. Finished with a coating of tung oil.

Neat! That's an unusual shape and I don't know what to call it. Maybe a 1/2 bowl?

Good for assorted fruits?

Thanks Jeff. I've seen them described as live edge bowls. At 7.5" long, it would be more of a candy dish than fruit, unless it is raisins! :gar-Bi

Sanding it was an adventure

if you look at the 3rd photo, this one had some cracks in it too, was unsure how it would come out. I got lucky...

I have some big crepe myrtles. If the ever die, nice to know it is possible to do something with the wood.
