I picked up this banker’s chair the other day and found someone got creative with one of the wheel stems:

I was thinking of filling the both of holes with dowels but am not sure how to patch/repair the missing wood.

There used to be a flat surface where the wheel stem was but that seems to have work away. I was thinking of structural epoxy but also thought of gluing on a thin strip of wood.

Any thoughts on these proposed repair

I agree with Mike, you could use a file to create a flat for a piece of the same wood to fit in, then file everything to the proper shape. A picture of the whole chair would be nice to see, and love to see a picture of the repair when it's complete. Great project!

Where you're holding that ruler - plane that down flat and glue on a piece of wood, then cut or shape to match.

Redrill holes and glue in dowels.

Thanks for the feedback!

This is a picture of the chair:

It’s much more comfortable than the modern office chairs I use at work. I’m not sure what the wood is but I have some thin cherry scrap that I will use for the flat piece and will use some dye:stain that I have to get a close match (at least I hope).

EDIT: a better picture of the chair.
