I've attached a few pictures of a recent project.

The project is a Bible Box I made for a close friend. She has a family bible that goes back 5-6 generations and it contains many cherished family records.

The box is made of quilted white oak and is banded and accented with black walnut. The inside bottom is lined with naturally tanned leather and the sides are lined with Brazilian Cherry.

Very nice box in all aspects. I especially like the splined miters and including them in the base.

I am sure that Bible Box will become another piece of the family heirloom and hopefully will help the Bible see another 5-6 generations!

Hank,

It's a latch from Brusso # JB-828. The hinges are also from Brusso # JB-107.

Novice question: Do the three strips on the inside of the lid serve a purpose (stability or other), or are they for esthetics only?
Again, beautiful box.

Bash,

They are for stability of the top insert. The top insert is ~1/4 inch and is flat sawn so I inlaid three strips of 1/8 " walnut to add rigidity/stability.
