Best wood for painted face frame

Another option for anyone reading through the thread - see if your hardwood dealer or sawmills have a "brown maple" stack. Its typically cheaper than regular soft maple because of the inconsistent color and brown streaks, but work great for painting! I can't seem to get through a poplar project without denting it up badly. Probably a lack of coordination on my part. :mad:
