Here are some belated Christmas gifts. These took a couple weeks longer than scheduled, but that's nothing new! The "parent" maple board was clearly stunning with figure (after I scrubbed the dirt off of it) but had some serious checks all through the middle. I think the widest clean cut possible was about 3.5" and 2' long. So it was a good fit for the project! For the contrasting woods, I had some walnut, purpleheart and cherry offcuts lying around. Let me just say that purpleheart was a bit of a beast to plane. I think it's time to get that low angle jack plane! The finish is 2 coats of blo/poly/ms, followed by steel wool and wax.
