I made this sushi serving tray for a friend of ours. Used Maple with Walnut feet and engraved
" Food from the sea" in Japanese on it. Simple project but looked great and they loved it.

Very nice, Brad!:eusa_danc:eusa_danc

Those feet sure does add a touch of class and sophistication. Nice piece of maple too!

Glad to see you are getting a lot of etching done and it looks super. Very professional looking.

Nice job! What did you finish it with?

I made 5 or 6 of these (Jap.: "geta") about 15 years ago, and they are still holding up nicely. I was worried about durability and cleaning (particularly staining) with the traditional natural, blond wood. All of my serving set is high-gloss black lacquerware or black earthenware, so I painted mine with a black undercoat and then used a bar finish epoxy top coat.

I LOVE the etching. Is that hand done or laser? The ones I did for a friend, I stenciled their last name in red kanji characters, but it didn't come out how I would have liked. If I did it all over again, I would have laser etched it.
