I'm up in Youngsville, NC and found this site while looking around at thickness sander reviews.
Most of my woodworking today is limited to home projects and British car restoration - you'd be surprised how much wood is in some of those old cars. Professional experience - long ago -...
Working on a commission piece for someone who wants the panels veneered with lacewood. I don't want to do the edges of the top or any of the trim in lacewood as it would be way too much, so I'm looking for a combination to match well.
Final finish will be dark, if not ebonized, so long as...
I'm building a large round table out of cherry. I found a pretty good deal on some quartersawn cherry that won't break my budget (too badly anyway). I'd originally dismissed the idea of doing any contrasting veneering to the top - like a medallion in the center or banding ("tiger" maple?)...
Edit 7/30/11: Willing to trade as well... primarily in need of some 3/4" maple plywood for various interior projects I've got going on but open to ideas.
If this is the wrong place to post this let me know... Classifieds specified lumber should go here and this is kinda sorta lumber.
In any...
Special thanks to Bobby G and for the use of his enormous veneering bag setup I was able to reclaim this 100 y/o drawer. I could not keep the pattern because:
It was 'branded on' when built.
And I had to sand down so far to get to smooth substrate. And even then I had to fill and smooth again...
Was wondering if anyone in the Triangle area (closer to Apex the better) had two or three 4" by 4" pieces of veneer I could either have or could pay a small sum for. I'm going to cut them into approx. 3 inch circles on my scroll saw for my son's toy box so around 1/16" thickness or so would work...
I'm buying some of Kevin Este's veneer (from this thread http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/showthread.php?t=38639).
Is anyone in the RDU area interested in consolidating their purchase(s) with mine into a single trip or shipment ?
If so, let me know. PM is fine.

I have a lot of veneer for sale that is taking up a lot of space in my shop in Greensboro. I would request a minimum purchase of $20, and I am willing to ship it if you pay the shipping (I won't make any money off the shipping).
I have about 20,000 sf of cherry that comes in all sorts of...
My wife has an old family cedar chest that's covered with veneer. Agewise, I'd put it somewhere in the 1940'ish range at the best if not earlier. It's not in great shape on the outside to say the least. The veneer is in varying stages of coming off over pretty much the whole thing. That ranges...
I need to dye some white wood veneer in some bright colors for ornaments and was wondering what the best wood would be to use.Holly is mighty expensive to use the way I'm gonna bury it in these items. It will be accent colors so I'm hoping something like poplar will work.I have some transtint...
:help: LOML just presented me with a project. Looks like 1920's piece with splitting, de-laminating veneer. I'm not good with new veneer!
Do we have any wizards around So. Wake who feels sorry for a fellow member?
So, I've had a few stumbles since buying a press and sliding down the veneer slope but I really love the creativity this discipline allows me! Thanks all for help with my many questions! :gar-Bi
Thought I'd post a few pics of what I've been up to in the last few weeks...
