    Red Tip

Just took out a bunch of +30 year old red tip bushes. Some of the branches are 4" - 5" diameter. The bases get up to about 8" dia. I don't turn...never caught the spinning disease...but if this is any good for turning let me know and I'll set some aside. Have no idea as to what it might look...

"Fire in the Hole" - Safety Tip

Today I was at my son's shop. He was going to use his cutting torch to cut some rusty bolts off a piece of equipment I am reworking for garden rows. Before we got started cutting we had to get some hand tools off his workbench. Note: He doesn't keep a neat workbench. There were loose...

Pen Tip Slides Into Barrel while Writing

I'm hoping someone can tell me what I need to do. I made a few slimline pens for friends and they tell me that, as they are putting pressure on the tip while writing, the tip gradually slides back into the barrel. Any advice? Is it something I'm doing wrong? Thanks

    Pen blank drilling tip!

Hi Guys/Gals, Some of you "newbies" may have the problem I've experienced. I have a pen blank vise I use to secure the blank while drilling. My vise has a metal bottom so using wood as a cushion against dulling the drill bit and splintering the pen blank is a must. Finding a piece of wood the...

    Tablesaw measureing tip

You know when you set the fence on the tablesaw to cut a particular cut and it comes time to make that cut maybe a 3/4" shorter on the next cut? When you move the fence to the left, the placement of the first cut on the tape isn't always an easy measurement to back up from. I have a 6" ruler...

    Drum Sander Tip

I just got a Jet 16/32 sander and the paper was getting clogged up in sections and burning the wood, I have a dust collector and use the eraser regularly. I saw a tip in one of the magazines I get on getting stubborn material off the paper. I tried it and it worked great. They used a piece of...

A Tip for All of Us ...

Make sure the LOYL likes the stuff you make. When she (or he) does, there is a much better chance that more funds will get approved for more goodies! Today, without asking, my wife stopped by WC and picked up pen supplies. She's really taken a liking to the acrylic pens ... and wanted me to...

    Black Locust tip?

Well I started squaring up some of the QS Black Locust I took to Scott over the summer, errr... this is most defiantly hardwood, I'm thinking I might as well go grab some bricks they would be softer. At Janka 1700 is nearly identical in hardness to Padauk, which I've seen a lot of you guys work...

    Possibly the GREATEST tip ever.....

At the Woodcraft "Make a knife" class last saturday, Joe imparted what might be the single biggest breakthru technique I've ever learned. When "filing, sanding, scraping, smoothing etc" change directions often. What does that mean? Well, lets say you are sanding a board. First move...

Tip for making a Checkerboard Pen Blank

When creating a checkerboard blank for a segmented pen, it is important to drill the hole for the brass tubes exactly in the middle. I use a brad-tip bit to drill the hole, so, before gluing four pieces of wood together to make the checkerboard blank, I use a block plane to shave off a very...

Tip for fixing those dents and dings

I don't know about most woodworkers, but when I am building small projects that have a top, bottom, and sides, like a small counter top spice cabnet, I like to fine sand the parts before assembly and glue up. I was doing the final assembly when the whole cabnet slipped from my hands and fell...
