    spalted maple HF

Here is a small maple HF I just finished. You have to love Maple. It is around 5"dia by 4" high. I use my home made hook tool to return under the lip of the bowl. The opening was only 3/4" green. I had to turn it out to 1" when returning to make it round again. Jack

For anyone who might be in the Michigan area this March, I thought I might give you a heads up. I'm giving a short (~20 minute) seminar at Michigan Technological University (Houghton, MI) about how to work with and stabilize spalted wood. I can e-mail people the abstract if anyone is...

    Spalted Oak Horses

Cut this out of a roughly 3/8" piece of spalted oak. It measures about 6" high and 14" long. The feet were cut of a piece of scrap from the same piece of wood.

    Spalted Hackberry...

Here's the product of todays fun. This is some more of the wood that I got the other week at NC Wood. It's about 5½" in dia. and about 3" tall, the walls are about ¼" I am not 100% happy with it because I got a fair bit of tear-out on the end-grain areas due to the punkiness of the wood. I tried...

    Spalted Wood Question

I know there must be someone that can give me a technical but straight forward answer to this question. Is it safe to use spalted wood for items that are used in food preparation and storage? Like for bowls, spatulas, spoons, chop sticks etc.. Thanks, Paula

Spalted oak frame - what's the best finish?

I'm building some picture frames out of spalted white oak, and need some advice regarding how best to finish them. I am not well versed in this area; my initial thought is to use some type of very light colored stain and an oil finish, but this is just a guess. Advice is most welcome...

    spalted wormy curly sycamore

Anyone interested in these pen blanks before I turn them loose on IAP for $3.00 a peice? You'll need to fill the bug holes with epoxy and pigment maybe black, white, red, cream, metalic... I don't know your choice. Solid wood pen blanks don't get much better than this :-D. If your interested, I...

    Spalted Oak?

I finally made some woodworking progress Saturday! Is this what everyone refers to as Spalted Oak? I know it started out as red oak when we sawed it last year. Got around to planing some down Sat. I'll have to write up a review of the DW 735 now that I've used it some. Oh, there's a few...

Spalted Red Oak available - cad

I have a scanner in my den; I don’t listen to it for entertainment or even on a regular basis. It sits next to my wife's chair and she normally is monitoring it every evening. It distracts me when I try to listen to the TV. I can’t disseminate two streams of audio to my brain for some reason. I...
