Serving Tray: A different type of project for me

I have wanted to try making a serving tray since I read a Woodsmith article a while back regarding using a bowl bit in your router. I bought a CMT collar extension recently and started on this project using a pice of Sapele I bought at East Wake Hardwood last year. I really enjoyed this...

Thanks to gotojeremy for the inspiration to make the serving tray. I wanted to try my hand at edge glueing and using the hand scraper on the maple, purpleheart, and wenge deck.

This Evenings Project ... a Serving Tray

Well, the weekend has been busy but I was able to squeeze in a couple hours Sunday afternoon to build a prototype serving tray. Since it appears to have been a success, I plan on making a set for my mother (yes, getting started in Christmas gifts for next year! :lol:) Just a dry fit so far ...

Serving Tray

Here is a serving tray, I just made. It's really nothing special in the design or construction. Size wise it's 12"x 16" x 5/8", all long grain with finger cuts made with a router and a cove cutter and small metal ball feet. What makes this special is the wood. It's some of the nicest looking...

nested serving trays
