Ambrosia Maple Platter

This is Ambrosia Maple and was reclaimed from a swamp in 2011 (but not by me). The blank started out as 2.25 X 17" X 20", and was cut to 15.5" diameter. In the last photo, you can see the blank, and there is about 3/8" clearance from the deck. The finished product is 14 5/8" diameter, and 1 7/8"...

Walnut crotch wood platter

8 3/8" diameter, 1 1/4" height, finished to 3000 grit, and at the time of this photo, one coat of Minwax Tung Oil finish. Took me 6 hours to turn, sand and finish this piece. The decorations are courtesy of the guest speaker (Frank B. Penta) we had at our Woodturner's meeting last Tuesday...

Large platter.

I just finished roughing out a chip and dip plater from a nice big leaf maple blank that I got from Mike Smith a fellow North Carolinian. This blank was covered with a thick coat of wax which had the grain and burl spots unseen by me until I turned the wax away. All I can say is WOW what nice...
