Since we are updating and the staff has shown a great interest in participating, would this be a good time to add a "Mobile Style". For all of us Blackberry, IPhone, and PDA users. From what I understand from my reading, the mobile device would trigger the style to be displayed. Just a...
This project was made from scrap plywood and maple. No fine joinery or treasured stock used on this one, it is gratifying however to throw a project together fast knowing that you are going to paint it. It turned out pretty good and when you can combine a cutting board and a place to hide the...
JDS introduced a similar, but much smaller, design last year ... but now Laguna has a larger model available. I like the idea of a semi-mobile cyclone -- especially for a smaller shop like mine.

I came up with a pretty simple design for a mobile base with a retractable swivel caster. Here's a picture with the caster locked down so the base is mobile (there are 2 fixed wheels in the back). When the caster is retracted, the base sits on the 2 feet you can see under the base. To use it...
If you are thinking about building a mobile base, and need a lifting caster, Rockler sells theirs separate from their mobile base kit (item # 92051). Item # for lifting caster only is 23650, price $19.99. Don't forget to use link here a NCWW, and code D9204 for FREE SHIPPING. Bruce
I put my RAS onto the Portamate 1000 base from the HD clearance (thanks again BAS) - and almost immediately bent one of the aluminum cams used for levering the wheels into position.
The manual says the base is rated for 400#..my RAS weighs 300-ish.
Hard to believe I have a 'bad' cam..these...
You see these sometimes at Woodcraft, alongside the Woodcraft mobile bases. I got one for $5 cheaper than the WC model. I already have a WC mobile base, which is my first mobile base. So I used that as a benchmark.
If you have assembled a mobile base, everything is a snap. The...
Hey All,
Before I start putting my HF lathe together I have a question or two. I plan on raising it a little because I've used one before and it was raised and comfortable, so how would you figure a comfortable height ? I plan on adding some ballast to keep it from rocking, so I may make a...
Amazon has a Powermatic mobile base for sale, which fits the PM bandsaw.
Looks like a decent deal.
Link to same product on Amazon with picture, for $100 more
Edit: Looks like JET is clearing other mobile bases too (shaper/ jointer)
One of the first tools I bought for my shop was a miter saw. This was before I had even gotten into woodworking, I just needed something to cut 2x4's and baseboard. It's actually not a bad saw, but it had two problems:
1. It took up a lot of space on my workbench
2. It produced a lot of...
Sometimes we talk about building tables... sometimes we talk about mobility of the things we build or use... check this form of mobility out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR931mtC3l4

Anyone know if any of those HTC cheapo mobile base's are still
around? Any body got one they would part with? :dontknow:
I need one for my router table and don't want to spend more on
it than I did on the router table. Guess I should have bought
spares when HD had them on sale. :BangHead...
At the WC Grand Re-opening I bought 4 discounted locking casters. I had hoped to used them on a Jet Joiner/Planer combo, but seem unable to pull the trigger on the purchase. So I installed them on the Jet mini-lathe stand. It is sweet!:gar-Bi:4robot:

BTW DaveO I have gotten a lot done...
Today, I was in a pawn shop to get a right angle drill for a job I'm doing. Over at the front of the shop they had a Delta mobile base (model 50 - 277). It included an extra item. They wanted $120, out the door. Checking Woodworker's Supply's catalog, I see them for $112, plus tax and shipping...
My shop is very small and space is a premium. It is also a wooden floor and not nearly as rigid as concrete. Because of the wood floor and a relatively narrow base for its height, the drill press tends to rock from side to side a small amount. It is not dangerously unstable, but I am wondering...
Just got the email from Rockler. They have the mobile base kit for sale at $29.99 here: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=2383.;-)
This is a great deal, I just ordered 2 of 'em. Combined with free shipping (promo code V8717, I think, check an earlier thread) it is one heck of a...
