    Need Help Milling

I've got 100 bf of QS red oak that I got at last Saturday's lumber run. Nice lumber at a bargain price from Jeff and Scott. However, I don't have a jointer or planer to convert it to S4S stock (and have never done it either). I'm willing to pay for service and help out with the hands on work...

    Milling out a tree

I have access to a downed white oak tree and I am thinking about having it milled up for lumber. Can anyone give me an idea of how much it might cost to have a good sized white oak tree cut up and kiln dried? I'm not looking for an exact price but a good idea of what I might be getting into.

Wood storage, milling, where did I go wrong?

Last weekend I was building a simple panel cutting sled and grabbed a piece of 5" wide 4/4 scrap poplar to use as a fence. Yeah, I know poplar is not the best choice but it's what I had. I proceeded to face joint, plan to thickness, edge joint and then rip to size. Final dimensions = 31"...

    Small White Oak Crock

White Oak, 5"w x 4"h, 1/2" wall. Wood was milled from using a Granberg Portable Chainmill and air-dried for 3 or 4 years. Need less to say it was like cutting a rock with a stick. I can't count how many times I had to touch up my tools.

pictorial milling of American elm crotch log

Started milling a 32" dia 15' long American elm crotch log today, wanted to make a pictorial. American elm is some of the prettiest wood I ever seen. And we won't see much of it either; Dutch elm disease has just about wiped out the entire United Sates population. American elm of any size is a...

    Milling dentil molding

I am considering trying to make a copy of my girlfriend's night stand for her so she can have 2 of them. But one of my big obstacles is that it has a fair bit of dentil moulding on it, and I haven't the slightest idea how to mill that, short of hand carving it which would be time consuming and...
