I found this in a bunch of wood I bought from the estate of a pen maker. They appear to be section of barrel staves. The wood is as hard as a rock. I tried to clean a piece up on the jointer, but I quit because I was afraid I would ruin the knives. I did cut a piece on the band saw to see...
I found this on my wood shelf. It probably came in a truckload of turning stock I got a while back. It didn't look like much, but I noticed it was very heavy. I cut a pen blank off of it and was surprised at how dense the grain is. Can anyone give me an idea of the species?
Thanks,
Adam

Hello NCWW's,
I got this wood from my local supplier and just wanted to make sure it is what he said it was. Things were all out of place as he had just moved.
Here is the bark above the wood
It sure is some great looking wood, that is for sure. :eusa_danc

I'm not much of a hand plane user, but I'm getting interested in it because of some awkward machining needed to true up my rocker headrests.
Someone gave me a Sears Craftsman plane years ago. The only markings I see on it are "Made in USA", and numbers in...
I am refinishing an old desk chair for a friend and am confused as to what kind of wood it is made of. I am guessing cherry but thought I would turn to the wood experts for help. I haven't sanded too much yet but it may be enough. I also guess the chair to be circa 1950's Thanks for your help!

They are on a tree between mine and the neighbors property. Since the neighbor isan older person that is real nice and these need to GO. There are several trees they have not killed yet but they are busy.
What is this? It is...
Hi Y'all, can anyone put a value on these hand planes for me. I found these at a flea market and would like to know the value and a possible deal for someone. The first one only has Stanley and made in the U.S.A.. The second has that and Bailey and No.5, both measure 13 & 7/8" long. Two photos...
It's not really what I would call a woodworking tool, but I think it's wood related. A friend found this in the woods near Ft. Bragg. I don't know what it is. It has an "A" with wings on the handle. It's not the "Airborne" symbol but looks similar. I've searched the WWW and asked everyone I know...
I have a piece of wood with rather interesting grain that I haven't seen before. I have resawed and taken pictures under different light, thus the difference in color.
Can you identify?

I was looking around for another idea on another clock. I found this particular clock here that I liked. I was wondering what kind of burl wood is on the top and bottoms? I have never done anything with burl anything. Not even sure where to get it or if it comes in solid wood or veneer type...
