Coffee Table redux - WIP pics

I built a prototype for this table last fall - it turned out well enough to avoid the firewood pile but it took forever to finish it. I'm now making progress on this one, which is cherry and padauk. The joinery on this table is somewhat unusual and has been fun, but challenging. This is my third...

Rocky Top Coffee Table - planing edge profile

I removed most of the waste on the table saw and then finished the profile with a plane.

Rocky Top Coffee Table - cutting the curve on the ends

The ends of the table have a slight curve to them. I roughed it out at the bandsaw, to be cleaned up with a plane.

Rocky Top Coffee Table - roughing out the end profile

Roughing out the profile on the end of each top piece. I did this by eye, no jigs - just roughing it out and will finish up with a plane.

Finished Coffee Table...5 years in the making.

I finally finished my coffee table today. I started building it over 5 years ago...and stole the concept from an Ikea coffee table. It took me so long, because once I built the panels and the tops I didn't want to continue because I was afraid I would mess it up. Well, the past 6 months I've...

    Finished coffee table

I finally finished my first version of this coffee table. These pictures aren't great - I need to take some time to get some better ones, but it might be a while since I get that done. The design of this table (not mine) uses an interesting combination of joinery that, if done right, should...

    walnut, maple. cherry coffee table

Here's my new coffee table -walnut, wormy maple and cherry. There were several firsts on this table including the breadboard ends and the curved legs. The finish for the top is blo, followed by wipe-on poly. For the legs and apron I used garnet shellac and wipe-on poly. The shellac looked...

    coffee table wip

here's the top for my new coffee table -it's walnut, wormy maple, and cherry. I used some of the walnut with the sapwood streaks in between the maple boards. This was my first attempt at breadboard ends. I learned the hard way that my router fence was not at 90 degrees, which i used to hog out...
