I just finished (well kinda finished) A Eastern Red Cedar bench I wanted this bench to be as rustic as possible its about 3 1/2 feet long & perfect height I have Alan to thank for the ERC this bench will be outside & I havent figured out what kind of finish I want to put on it! but I'm sure I...
Hey Everyone,
I am finished with the Cedar Chest after two months of woodworking and two weeks of uploading the photos. I have enjoyed making this piece of work. It was challenging and fun, My lovly wife helped me sand, well she pretty much sanded 99% of it. She is amazing! Let me know what...
John and I went down to Tracy's (newtowood) yesterday and picked up some of the cedar he was giving away. Enjoyed the visit with Tracy and his wife, Kathy. We also got to see is shop. Thanks for the wood and visit. Here's the required photo:
Well I think my first cedar box is a disaster.
The tails in my joints were breaking off, and it did not go together as well as expected. I used the jig I bought from Woodline; http://www.woodline.com/p-1825-route-r-joint-precision-dovetail-joinery-system.aspx at the Charlotte...
I aquired some cedar today and some of it is kinda thin. If any of the scrollers need some I could help out. PM me if you need some. It is some beautiful wood and would make some nice wood to scroll. The price is definitely right!!!
Went to check on a band saw advertised on Charlotte craigs list and scored this load of ERC. I probably got 75 to 100 board feet for $20.00. Some thick, some thin. He also has some reclaimed oak for $10.00 for the load. Beware of the nails though. Should I buy it although it has a lot of...
Thought you guys might enjoy looking at my recently finished double reed duck call. I used cedar for the barrel and bloodwood for the insert and cut my own reeds. Needs a couple more coats of finish however.
We build some cedar swings, and I'm seeing opportunities to buy ERC logs.
My problem is, I have no idea what to pay for them. How do you guys (sawyers) price cedar? Is there a rule of thumb for buying logs?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get rough-sawn cedar or cypress? I'm in need of some to use as trim on a backyard shed that I'm getting ready to build. I got a price from the local lumberyard on the cedar for 1x6 at $1.46 a linear foot, but I'm hoping that there's a better deal...
Hey everyone and experts,:gar-Bi
I will be making a Cedar Chest and have read somewhere that it is not good to stain, treat, or add any chemicals to Cedar wood on the inside due to the fact that the clothes and lid will stick? But how about the outside of the chest? Yes I will be using all...
Saturday, I was gluing up the cabinet I am building for a jewelry armoire. I used Jorgensen bar clamps, with plastic clamp pads. When I looked at it this evening, I could see dark spots where the clamp pads were. The spots are dark, like wet cedar. In the group's experience, will...
No doubt ERC is beautiful fresh off the planer, but it's brilliance soon fades if a finish isn't applied quickly. It turns from a bright red, purple and white to a brownish tint heading on it's way to gray. I have a rather large outdoor ERC project I need to finish. Although I am dead set...
Hi everybody, It's ALL fixin to burn. I have several stacks of red oak, cedar & pine lumber. Putting it all in a pile and adding gas this evening. I have had the final insult. I was offered $0.30BF for 500BF of very nice QS red oak and $0.40BF for 300BF of very nice cedar. I told the guy it...
Any one know a good place to get dry untreated pine or plain cedar 4x4's in the Raleigh/Apex area? Capital City is the only place I know of.
Thanks,
Jeff
Anyone have a source for cedar pegs or dowels? I want to use some 3/8" diameter pegs (about 40, 2"-3" long) in a project. If the cedar pegs are made of unobtainium, I can make do with 10' of 3/8" cedar dowel.
If neither are available, I can buy a bullnose router bit, and make my own...
I am looking for 10-12 bd ft of cedar for a project. My design uses mostly 4" wide cuts, 36"L and 17" L. Any info on sources within 2 hours drive of Winston-Salem, including reclaimed wood, is appreciated. (Trying to give business to someone beside BORG).
I do not have a planer, so I hope to...
A couple weeks ago I found someone's personal web site with the story of the restoration of a cedar armoire complete with pictures. Apparently this piece of furniture had bounced around the family for a while before he finished it. I am interested in locating this site again because this piece...
A lady from Durham has contacted me about building a cedar chest for her and I don't have the time. The only hitch is that she wants to use the wood from a log that has been felled in her yard. The log is big enough (according to her description of it) and the wood would dry quickly. It just...
