Inheritance gloat - Old 'Arn of a different kind

Well, 37 years after my Great Grandfather passed, I finally got the last of my inheritance - a 50 ft. Wardmast'r Nickel Plated Steel Measuring Tape in the original box from Monkey Ward. Anyone have any advice on determining the vintage? There aren't any dates on anything.

    Help cleaning my Old 'Arn

Well, I have my new arbor bearings and I have to put the thing back together but there's some rust and debris on the parts. What's the best way to clean them up before I reassemble the arbor? I was planning on using mineral spirits and a brass brush. Is a Scotch Brite pad too abrasive?
