So I am clearing land for our new house and have this tree I cut.. while I can tell any species of wood in the lumber yard... I know zero about them alive. I think I know what this is but want opinions before I say what I think it is.

You can download LeafSnap on you phone and usually come up with the answer. I have some pignut hickory trees with leaves and bark resembling your photos, but the bark and pith of the tree also look like ash to me.

If it's hickory, there should be the remains of nuts or hulls under it, but I'll vote ash.

Looking at the tight growth rings, and the 5 part leaf, I'm going to go with pig nut hickory.

My first thought was hickory. If the outer bark feels like cork it's probably ash. If the bark is hard then it's hickory.

In my experience ash is mostly the same color and does not have a distinctive heartwood. Hickory, however, does. I'm gonna stay with hickory for now.

I'm curious to see how this one plays out. We may have to schedule an onsite visit ;).

Looks like shagbark hickory to me too...
I cut one a year or so ago and the split looks familiar - especially the leaves...

I want to know what's up with the barber's chair split in the fourth photo. How "exciting" was that?

Actually a storm was approaching so the first half of the split was on the ground and we left the other half up. Mother Nature provided assistance in dropping the other half when we came back!

Looking at the leaves and the wood, Im thinking its its hickory. ash leaves are smoother on the perimeter, hickory has the deeper sawtooth leaves like in the photo.
