I am looking for some drill bits to use with chair building.

33/64 .5156
17/32 .5312
35/64 .5468

I can work with HSS twist bits. Wondering if anybody has a good source in the Raleigh/Durham area?

No idea if this has anything to do with what you need other than they have something to do with chairs and drills. But based on your posts you do some great work and these might be usefull? lol

Dan, I have ordered from Ballew Saw and Tool in the past to get some fractional size bits not normally found locally. The catalogue I have is an old one (2000) . They list the phone number as 1-800-288-7483. They take phone orders 8-5:30 central time, M-F. They also mention the 800 number is reserved for ordering. Maybe WWW.BALLEWTOOLS.COM will give the information you need. Hope this will be of some help.

I checked McMaster, they definitely have them. The two bigger ones are $25-30 in the one configuration I checked. The little one was like $3.

I have dealt with this outfit in the past needing odd size taps, lots of cutting tools. They only have import in the size you want. Here is link to the large sizes you want about $5.00 ea

Here is link to drill bits in general, US made 17/64 about $2 - Just saw the size in your listing, it is a 17/32 so back to the big list above

I do not remember shipping cost.

As Charlie said, "McMaster". Why are these specific sizes needed to build a chair? Just curious.

Catalog #$

33/64"8870A4617.16
35/64"8870A4819.53

Dan, the other option would be to take 1/2 inch bits and grind one side just a bit longer than the other giving you an offset and a slightly larger hole.
33/64 (.5156) one side of the bit would be 0.2578
17/64 (.5312) 0.2656
35/64 (.5468) 0.2734

Dan, since you asked about local suppliers Wilders Bolt and Nut in north Raleigh typically stocks Norseman bits (US MFG). They are an excellent quality drill bit.

Cruco in Sanford stocks Nachi (excellent Japanese brand) along with an import brand.

Fastenal also has good quality products.

I use both Norseman and Nachi for my metal working and they are both top quality bits. Stop by the shop one day and we can go to lunch and stop by Cruco on the way back (or vise versa).
