If I count correctly I am #4. I have had the bourguignon before and it was wonderful.

The first address is the beginning of planning and shaping a workshop at Bill Clemmon's place in Liberty. You can get an idea of the planning stages.

The second address is Bill's photo album he created for the cutting gage class. You can see how the attendees "worked together" to get things done. I was impressed with their initiative.

I don't think any of the folks who came to Bill's shop would mind if you sent along a PM or just asked here what they thought of the class and what to maybe bring along to make it even better.

Hope this helps your decision schedule

Re: Cutting Gauge Workshop II - Raleigh - August 25 - Signup here

I'd have to say if you have any interest in this tool then it totally worth your while to do this workshop. I had no need for this marking gauge but did have an interest in meeting with other woodworkers and sharing as a group the experience. I work in isolation professionally and as a hobby, so getting out and working with others is a real treat. Not only that, I laided this gauge in my tool tray and I'm finding that I'm using it really more often than I thought I would. It's a solid marking gauge. Hand tools to bring along, small straight blade screw drivers, mill files, wood rasps, card scraper, cordless drill, small center punch (I dislike drifting drill bits), a small selection of drill bits below the 3/16", a scratch awl, and a team spirit. Not to mention Phils cooking is really good. And the real kicker after all of that you get the patient guidance of Dan (danmart77). He is very accomplished woodworker with vast experience. I enjoyed the workshop very much, and I believe you will as well. :gar-Bi

Will this be the "coloring" mini class that Dan taught at your shop last time or "true" finishing (top coats)?

It will be a quick demo and hands on exercise on how to simply finish with pre-cat lacquer shot with a mini-gun

Re: Cutting Gauge Workshop II - Raleigh - August 25 - UPDATED

I know I'm late to the party but I'm interested!

Chris you are not late. We only had 4 takers and then 1 dropped. With only 3 members wanting to make the tool on 25 Aug we need more players. If you want to get on the list send along a PM to me and I will give you address information to get on the list.

Re: Cutting Gauge Workshop II - Raleigh - August 25 - UPDATED

We have 6 folks firmed up and we are a go on the 25 August date. I will bring along all the brass needed, wood for the block and bar and some of the required bits to bore and cut a radius edge on the sliding bar.

Each attendee should consider the tool list mentioned below. If you have some of these tools it will make the build easy.

This is a good list of tools put out by Graywolf(Richard) after he attended the gage class up in Liberty at Bill's shop.

Hand tools to bring along:
small straight blade screw drivers for small brass screws.
mill file for brass edge work
wood rasp
card scraper
small center punch (I dislike drifting drill bits),\
a small selection of drill bits below the 3/16",
a scratch awl,
a cordless drill if you have one you really like that holds small drill bits.
and a team spirit.

At Phil's shop:
bandsaw
spindle sander
router table
lots of other nice tools

If you don't have something in the list above, I will be bringing along some extra stuff. Looks like the hard wood I will prep will be either maple or beech.

Some of the dark "tigerwood" Kevin N was selling back a ways

Feel free to post any question here so all can view and gain from the Q and A.

I suspect Phil will post times and directions this week so check your mail.

Cutting Gauge list of builders
1. Donn W
2. Johnny R
3. Raymond
4. David Turner
5. Chris
6. Mick

Well its a couple days away and I'm looking forward to getting together. I hope that all of you have seen the list of things to bring along that I copied from Richards input. It will make things easier for you if you have some tools of your own. Its not a must but it helps.

I hope to print out a list of suppliers for you to take home after the class in the event that you would like to make another down the road. Granted I buy in bulk but its a thought.

Please reply today so I know you have taken a look at this. See you on Saturday.
