    Didn't know Sycamore

Since didn't know what sycamore looked like went searching and came up with these two sites:

Hardwood Handbook - Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association

A Guide to American Hardwood Species

After researching thought Sycamore would be a pretty wood to turn.

    Re: Didn't know Sycamore

Check out NZAPP1's gallery http://www.ncwoodworker.net/pp/showphoto.php?photo=8525 he has turned some of Jeff's Sycamore. I have a hunk waiting on me to get the inspiration to give it a spin. I've turned quite a few pens out of curly Sycamore and love it.
Yes, it is a very pretty wood to turn, give it a try

Your samples are bland compared to quarter sawn sycamore. Turned sycamore might be even better than you think. QS Sycamore looks a lot like Lacewood. Google it for some better pics like this one:

Yeah Alan is right QS Sycamore is right cool and some people do call it American lace wood. Flat sawn it's pretty bland, but QS is completely different, it's one of the very few species that benefits in appearance when QS. I have a few sample pics in this thread:
