Folding Assembly Table AW #127 Feb/Mar-07, pg 16

I saw a plan for this table in a recent mag ( American WoodWorker Issue #127 Feb/Mar-07, pg 16) and thought it would be a good addition to a small shop. On casters and folds for easy storage. The only thing left to do is make a top for it. I'm thinking of banded MDF with a hardboard skin.

    Re: Folding Assembly Table

That's nice, your dog seems to approval also. The base seems very compact and storable, but what do you do with the top? I wonder if there is a good way to make it folding also

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

    Re: Folding Assembly Table

    Dave,

I was wondering also about the top and where to conveniently store it. Had not thought about folding...I was concerned that I'd need the rigidity of a solid deck to keep the folding base secure. But upon reflection with your suggestion I could probably make a couple of sleeves (U shaped) to slide over the outstretched plywood supports and keep them rigid and then I could use a folding top.

Thanks for thinking outside the "board".

Great idea, Dan! Looks like it will be very sturdy as well as compact.

Do you recall what magazine and issue that you saw it in?

    Thanks,

    Dan,
I saw the same article, here my version. I'm almost finished with the base and top; constructed the top out of the pine "shorts" board you get @ Home D. I added some reinforcements to stop warping. Makes a nice addition to my small shop (14x18). Thanks for sharing your pics, Jim

    Dan,
Great space saver. DaveO beat me to the question about the top. But could you split the top and hinge both halves so you could flip them and they would hang down the sides when folded. However the problem with rigidity is another matter.

    Re: Folding Assembly Table

I got the "shorts" board at Home Depot; it comes in 6' x 12" and 18" widths. My top's gluded up to a final of 65" by 30" - Jim
