Hello from Central Washington
By way of introduction, my name is Don Stanley, and I live in central Washington, the state in the North West. I have visited this forum several times in the past, and was really impressed -- my kind of place! As luck would have it, Steve Coles graciously provided the opportunity to be a member. I met Steve shortly after joining the Woodworking Galleries photo posting web site.
My wife and I are both retired, and recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. We have two boys, both married, and a total of five grand children. One son lives in Salem, Oregon, and the other one lives near Deltona, Florida. We lived in the Orlando area nearly 10 years in the 90's.
Woodworking has been my hobby for about 50 years. I like all kinds of woodworking and related projects. You can see a sampling on Woodworking Galleries My Photo Gallery - Message - Powered by PhotoPost
My current project restoring my Dad's 1940's wood lathe. I look forward to meeting everyone - sharing ideas and learning new techniques, and most important, to have new friends.

Hey Don,
Welcome to the site. Nice work in your gallery!
Do you have a lot of local sawmill lumber in your part of Washington?

Welcome to the site Don. I have some fond memories of Yakima. There are a lot of great folks here and I'm sure that you will enjoy NCWW.

Thank you for the warm welcome!
I really appreciate the warm reception to the forum, and look forward
hearing about your projects.
Doug -- based on your comment (and bio) , I gather that you may have been stationed at the Firing Center.
Todd -- Yes, there is a local Boise Cascade saw mill, but they are in the process of shutting down. The mill is located on the outskirts of Yakima; I drive by it several times a week. They still have acres of timber to Process!
All -- I would like to share a recent experience. My brother's sister-in-law works for All-Wood Components, Inc, in Union Gap, WA -- a suburb of Yakima. I got a quick look inside of this huge woodworking heaven. 100,000 square feet, and 30,000 SF inside lumber storage. Huge! One machine, a CNC Router, was cutting about 8 raised panel doors, all at one time! The company manufactures wood components, for other manufactures; cabinets, furniture parts, etc. The only wood species is Alder. I suspect this company may have been based in Georgia, as that is where their sales office is located. Here's a link to their web page: All-Wood Components, Inc. Note some of the dust collection pipes.

Re: Hello from Central Washington
Don, welcome to the site. Remember if you come to spring picnic, you will most likely be the one who traveled the fartherest to get here.
