    Re: Phenolic Plywood Report

I think part of the problem Woodworkers/Jigmakers have with finding Phenolic Plywood is that if you ask for "Phenolic Plywood" most suppliers are not going to know what you're talking about. Check with a supplier of concrete forms. Formtech (Charlotte and Raleigh), Whitecap and Guaranteed Supply (all over NC) sell "Forming Plywood/Panels" ranging from Phenolic coated to High Density Overlay to Medium Density Overlay plywood which will all provide a stable and tough surface. These sheets are not cheap but the suppliers may have sheets w/dinged corners which they may sell at a discount to get them out of the warehouse. https://www.formtechinc.com/document...l-brochure.pdf I use an MDO surface with a few coats of poly sanded down between coats and paste waxed for my David Marks style assembly table. It is 4x6 feet and very flat.

Klingspor has Melamine edge banding if you want to dress up the edges with that. It's the iron on stuff you just heat up and stick it on the edges then trim. Just a fairly simple alternative to the wooden edges.

I have an old counter top on my bench. I can use it with my track saw, screw hold downs to it, paint, glue. I love it!

    Re: Phenolic Plywood Report

I've done a lot of work with the HD melamine-coverd partical board. You can get heat glued edging for it (tough I'd be leary of using that on an outfeed table, the constant rubbing of the edge is likely to peel it). I used it to build a cabinet into a wall in the bathroom of a former house. Certainly cheap and I've seen it in larger than 2x4 sheets.
No job is worth doing unless you can get a new tool out of it.
