    OVRX flooring on order

Well I went ahead and ordered 125 pieces of this flooring. Should be here in time for me to take some vacation time to pull up the old carpet and install the new floor. Not looking forward to moving everything around tomake room for the install, but my feet are going to thank me when I'm done.

    Ken,

Good move! I've got the installation tool here if you want to borrow it.

Thanks, I'll probably take you up on that offer, I have a similar tool for installing laminate flooring but it's much smaller than the one that OVRX sells. The extra size will probably be benificial with these large tiles.

Lowes called and the flooring is in. The wife left me the pickup and I'm going to go pick it up at lunch today. I'm on vacation starting next week so I guess I know now what I'll be doing with all that spare time.

Is this the same stuff that bobby g has in his shop? If so, I really like that stuff. What's the pricing on it look like? I'm in the process of getting estimates to build a shop, and would consider that as a flooring option!

    Re: OVRX flooring on order

It is the same stuff Bobby used. I stood on his floor almost a whole day during a carving class and my feet didn't hurt at the end of the day. That sold me on it.

I priced it at Lowes and HD. HD had it for 6.99 a piece 2'x2' or 4 sq. ft. Lowes had it for 7.49 in quantities less than 140 (a pallet load.) Since I have a Lowes card that gets me an additional 5% off I had Lowes match the HD price of 6.99 and used the card to get the additional 5%.

It works out to a little less than $2 a sq. ft. - not cheap, but reasonable. The price seems to change often so do your research before buying.

It won't take you long. Other than cutting parts to fit the edges, they go down really fast.

That's pretty interesting material that's new to me. The OVRX website is informative as well.

It's the moving everything around and then pulling up the ratty indoor/outdoor carpet the previous home-owner put in the garage that I'm not looking forward to.

Carpet is a very bad idea for a wood shop.

    Re: OVRX flooring on order

Question for Bob or Chris, the experienced folks. The OVRX website says that if you're using this as a finish floor then you should coat it with a urethane finish of some sort. Did either of you do that and if so, what product did you use and where did you get it?

I've gotten 2 rows of tile put down. My little flooring tool is working OK on the ends, but I'll try to get by Bob's and borrow the larger one this weekend.

My biggest problem is the blamed carpet. I've rolled it back so far, but now I need to find a way to cut it up in pieces and remove it in chunks. I've got too much stuff in there to make enough room to have even half of the shop free of equipment in order to pull up carpet.

I put down some sort of water-based finish leftover from a previous project on about half my tiles. I bought some water-based poly to finish the job, but haven't done it yet. Doesn't really appear to need it, though.

    Ken,

I applied 3 coats of MinWax floor poly. I highly recommend it. It makes sweeping up a simple task. I'll leave the tool outside the shop door for you. I'll go do it right now.

    Re: OVRX flooring on order

Thank you sir. I'll probably stop by Saturday Morning between 9-10AM on my way to Ed's Tool Store in Pittsboro. The wife wants to get something at one of the shops in Pittsboro so it's a good excuse to visit Ed's Store.

Did I read this correctly - you will be installing this in the garage ???
If so, will any vehicle also inhabit the garage ?

Will this floor be ok with the car on top of it ?. Make sense that it should be OK , considering the heavy equipment Bobby G. has on it.
I may be the next candidate for this.

I would think not. Ignoring the issue of strength, I can't imagine how you would keep it dry.
