Looking Polyethylene plastic panels
I am looking some polyethylene panels in 1/4x4'x8' also known as polymer sheets. I need scraps or an entire panel would be ideal. Anyone familiar with someone in the state that might have such a thing?
Thanks, ChrisChris

Re: Looking Polyethylene plastic panels
There are lots of different forms of PE. LDPE, HDPE, UHMWPE, etc. Might help people to know what you're looking for, or the purpose of it so that they know what direction to send you.
I tend to buy it from Piedmont Plastics when I need a full sheet, or a local place in Charlotte when I need small cuts or drops.
Might also check the regrind bins at some of the local fabricators; many of them keep large bins that are sent back overseas for recycling of drops of this kind of material. I have picked up several small pieces this way.

Re: Looking Polyethylene plastic panels
Thanks Fergy, in regards to specific types of polyethylene that i could use or should I say, should use for my project, not quite sure exactly what i need just yet. I was not aware of all the various kinds of polyethylene although I am familiar with the High density composition. I want some scraps to construct a custom water tank for potable water that I will be plastic welding. It would be really nice if I could get my hands on some scrap pieces in the range of 20x24", but that might be too much to ask I suppose.
I am located downeast and a drive all the way to Charlotte would not benefit me that much, I was looking something that i could purchase from some of you guys and pay for shipping to my place. Do you by chance have any contact info, website address for these fabricators you made mention of?
thanks for all your help, ChrisChris

Re: Looking Polyethylene plastic panels
Piedmont Plastics and New Wave Acrylics are who I deal with in Charlotte. I don't think you're going to be able to find enough of the proper size. You're hot-air welding these together?

Re: Looking Polyethylene plastic panels
I don't know how customized your application is, but don't be surprised if your DIY tank comes out costing a good deal more than a ready-made off-the-shelf solution. Plastic sheets (especially full-sized) can be quite expensive these days -- and shipping can be equally cruel given the weight of such items, and if you get hit with dimensional weight shipping (probable), then it gets even more costly to ship.
It can also prove difficult to properly shape and weld everything together unless you already have access to all the necessary gear and equipment.
