1St solo try at spoon making

I spent most of the afternoon trying to make a spon after I had a lession at Mike Davis's. I had a great afternoon butchering this chunk of maple learning what not to do. It did not come out as I had planned but little ever does. I am sad to say that I wont get to use this one as it is already cracking but it was still a good afternoon.

    Not a bad spoon.
The thing that holds up all my woodworking is simply getting started.

A lot of first spoons look like that, they get better as you go along. The second one will be twice as good and the next twice as good as the second.

Just keep at it. You had fun and you stuck with it, two out of three is great!

Keep it and look back in a year.
Most people who are into preparedness, didn't get there because it makes sense. They got there because they suffered and chose not to suffer again.

We have a spoon artist working in the local Home Depot. He cranks out one spoon a month. Just a point that if someone wants, they can spend A LOT of TIME on a spoon.

It typically takes me more than a month for love spoons. My hands go numb if I work too long at any one time due to more problems than I want to fix. i just don't get in a hurry.

Good start Mark. A coat of finish and you have created a family heirloom.

As a hobbyist one should never feel the need to hurry on a project. The whole point of the experience is to have a good time. Even with gifts, my family would rather have a well built (and unrushed) gift then see me stressed out trying to deliver it on time.

I know, with my health problems, that it easily takes me 10x more hours than the rest of you to complete just about any project. Nor is it uncommon for a project to be 2-3 years in the making before I manage to complete it. Some years are good years if I so much as complete a single project all year... lol

So I tip my hat (if I had one to tip) to all who focus on enjoying their hobbies and are not afraid to try new things.

You inspired me to find a picture I had "lost" on the computer.

From left to right, behold my first three turned objects!
