Retrofitting Double Pane glass in Old Door

I have been thinking about installing an older craftsman style door on the entrance of my house, but have been concerned about the efficiency of single pane glass. I have thought about retrofitting some newer more efficient glass in the anticipated door.

Has anyone put new double pane glass in an old door?

It can be done, but it really depends on the door. If there are stops on both sides of glass, you could simply use smaller stops to hold the double pane. Any decent glass shop should be able to build the double pane unit for you. The video link below should give you an idea of how to install it.

Just an FYI, you may want to upgrade the look of the door while your at it, by having stained, beveled or depression era style glass used in the construction of the double pane.
