    Re: Jigs Workshop UPDTE 5/21

OK, next Saturday should work timing wise. I will have to pick up a piece of plexi. I assume I should bring my router also(?). I only have one "real" router - a Dewalt fixed base. What time?

    Let's start around 0900.
Bring your router unless you want to use the Bruce Wrenn patented 'router docking system', which I endorse. Ask Canuck or zapdafish if they like it, too. Otherwise, we can screw your router to the arm.

I did some searching but came up empty; was there a thread on the router base?

EDIT - Wondering if this is something additional I need to do on my router.

    Re: Jigs Workshop UPDTE 6/11

Andy, it's simply using a guide bushing, also called a template guide on the router base. I use a 1" bushing, and I can mount any router I have, w/o any modification to my jigs. More importantly, I can cut full circles (ellipses) with the router always facing me, never re-positioning the cord or vac hose. This pic may help.

Sorry, I can't post the pic because the UPLOAD pic function is not working.

PhilS just sent me a work around, so I'll try again..1026hrs

How long does the ellipse jig workshop usually take? I'm interested and could possibly make this Saturday. I have a few other things scheduled throughout the day, but could possibly shuffle things.

I can usually make one in 30 minutes, but most folks want an explanation of why and how and also want to do some of the work themselves. That adds about 2 hours, so figure 0900 to 1200.

Awesome. Count me in. Can you PM me an address?

Is there anything else I need to bring besides the following?

    (1) 6" x 24" x 1/4" plexi
    (1) 6" x 6" x 1" hardwood
    (2) slider hardware: Bolt, washer, knob

Would 1/4" x 20 bolts work? I have many pieces left over from a jig kit with some nice knobs.

If those will work, will you sell me a couple? I was planning to do my shopping Thursday or Friday afternoon, so I don't have them yet.

    Re: Jigs Workshop UPDTE 6/11

If we were using aluminum for the arm, I'd say 1/4-20 would be fine. However, the slot would have to be 9/16", and 3/8' is as wide as I'm comfortable with on plexiglass.

Okay, I'll pick up the 10-24 parts.

Is the issue with the wider slot due to having to route it or does it make the arm too flimsy? I've never put a router to acrylic, only ever done the score/snap and used a laser cutter.

Another "Thanks, Joe!" to add to the pile. Manfre couldn't make it so Joe did a one on one workshop. I learned a lot and came home with a great router ellipse jig.

DougW & KenofCary, I have you scheduled for 6/30 on the panel sled workshop. Are you still good to go?
