    Re: Jigs Workshop UPDTE 7/02

It has been over a year since my last workshop so I'm offering to have 1 or 2 if there is any interest. I want to keep it to no more than 2 people. If interested, select a jig you'd like to build. (I'm using the poll function to see how it works now)

    1_______Ellipse jig

    2______Circle cutting jig

    3______Run-out/alignment test tool

    4_____Panel sled

    Re: Jigs Workshop

In order to concentrate on the important stuff, I'll be posting some 'homework' in the next day or so. Stuff you'll need to gather up and maybe some other little tasks.

    Panel sled
Those of you on the panel sled project, need to find out if your RH miter slot is industry standard 3/4".
And with the blade at exactly 90 deg, measure from the RH side of the blade to the left edge of the RH miter slot.
Many saw manufacturers put the miter slots in the same places, but yours may be different.
Sleds can be made with most any 1/2" to 3/4" ply, MDF, MDO, Melamine as long as it's flat. The one I'm using now was leftover from a cabinet project and is 25" X 37", 2ft X 3ft is close enough. If anyone has a lead on suitable materials, please let us know. Pickup a pair of toggle clamps and seasoned 3/4" hardwood for the fence and we'll install them here. A hole saw, 2-3 inch will be sufficient for the finger holes (can't find mine or we could do them here). Or maybe one of you has one and would bring it to the workshop.
While not strictly necessary, an Incra or another metal miter slide is recommended. Otherwise a hardwood miter slide can be used, but will be an aggravation forever!

    Ellipse jig
is also popular and mine consist of a piece of 9" X 24" - 1/4" plexiglass. My first one was 1/4" luan. Don't waste your time with luan, but Baltic Birch would work. However, I like the see through plexiglass. Just make sure it's wide enough to mount your router.
If you don't feel comfortable routing the long slot, we can do it here. For the ellipse engine itself, a 1 X 6 X 6 piece of close grain hardwood will do fine. And while wing nuts work, I find the knobs more comfortable.

    Schedule:
My time is flexible, so weekdays and weekends work for me, so the easiest way to setup a schedule is for you to send me a PM with your preferences and we'll work from there.

Geoff, since that's more days from now than I can count (only got 10 fingers), keep reminding us and see if you can scare up a shop partner. As we get closer, we can see if it'll work....Joe

It may work just fine, but I'm afraid that it will cook a router bit while cutting the slot.
You and Steve (zapper of fishy things) are set for June 2. Bring the router you will use with the jig. A 2.25hp is good enough to drive a spiral bit through most anything. I'll buy the hardware for the pivot points.

I'm sending you both a PM.
