    This Is Me

Steve says that I didn't do this. I always thought that I had.

I've been happily married 47 years to the same wonderful woman. We have 4 children and 2 grand children. I'm a semi-retired automation engineer (EE) with a long career of developing control systems for large scale automated machinery, but have usually been deeply involved in the programming, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic aspects of the projects as well. I was also the sole North American electrical service rep for a Czech Republic based offset printing press manufacturer. My territory was all of North America; all 50 states, Canada, and the Caribbean, so I got to travel a quite a bit (suitcase and toolbox were always in the car). I've also been a volunteer fireman/officer and a professional fire marshal. I've always had a workshop at home and have enjoyed woodworking as a hobby since I was about 14. Most of my wood projects have been furniture and home items. I've never sold any, since someone in my family has always wanted what I've built.

For the past 15 years I have been helping the NC Science Museums (mostly Discovery Place) with the design and construction of new automated exhibits, or improving the design or repair of existing exhibits. I work in my home shop, or in their shops or museums as the need requires.

I've retired 4 times so far, but it has never lasted very long, as I very much enjoy what I do.

It's nice to know more about you Charlie. I've enjoyed talking to you at our monthly lunches in Greensboro. I loved that electronic game and cabinet that you built. I think the waitress was the only one to get a perfect score!

Like Scott said, Charlie, I'd know you anywhere too. I think you're having more fun un-retiring than I am. Look forward to seeing you again @ the Woodworking Show.

    Re: This Is Me

    Thanks guys.

I've very much enjoyed the times that I've spent with you too. I'll be getting back to the lunches one day soon. I've tried to make it to the last several in Greensboro, but life got in the way. I'll keep trying.
