Thanks all for the kind birthday wishes. Now that I've got the technical issues with the dust collector settled (thanks again), I'm down to planer issues. The little 12" lunchbox Delta that was given to me through a belt again (a few hours after I put it in). I've got one more belt and to figure out why it doesn't last very long but...
I'm seriously considering a the JJP-12. The shop is small. Right now the planer sits on the floor next to the drill press most of the time. I've got a PowerMatic 6" jointer (helical head, nice). I'm beginning to think that for the type of stuff I'm doing I could use a bit more realistic planing capability and being able to do 8" or more on the face jointing would be nice.
So now I'm down to the question: Sell the Jointer and get the JJP-12? Is the HH worth the extra $1000?
I have the JJP-12HH. See the full review here -> http://newtoolreviews.com/featured/j...rjointer-combo
My opinion on the machine hasn't changed in 2 years, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. The helical head is worth the extra money. If you're ever in the area, feel free to stop by for a demo.
I have a JJP-12 with the straight knives and have a couple of observations having had several lunch-box planers and a 6 inch jointer. The knife life on the JJP-12 far exceeds that of any of the lunch-box planers with disposable knives. I often joint boards that are 10-12 inches wide prior to planing to achieve a truly flat board. The JJP-12 is more powerful and quieter than any of the lunch-box planers that I had and the ability to joint 12 inch boards is a real bonus.
