lawn edger question
http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/Pro...?SKU=998011068
Anyone use one of these? My lawn is so small I don't really want to buy a powered one. I had my lawn aerated and seeded a few months ago and finally have a decent looking lawn.
The other options is something like a flat spade.

Re: lawn edger question
Steve.
Have had one of these (your 1st link to Ace HW) for about twenty years now.

I rarely, if ever use it anymore.
You can have it if you like. Free and clear!
Probably could do with a little TLC, cleaning and lube; but it works just fine.
Just PM me to set up the handoff.

Re: lawn edger question
I remember using one of those when I was a kid before the string trimmers became popular. I seem to remember that it worked... but was a lot of work to push if you left off edging for a couple of weeks....

Re: lawn edger question
I have one that I used for a couple of seasons, before I sprung for a string trimmer last summer. It works great for what it is, but I have approx. 75' of drive/ walkway edging and that was pushing it a bit.
That being said, mine is currently collecting dust on garage wall, if you want it, it's all yours.Heath

Re: lawn edger question
Wow! Do I feel old. Bought one when I worked for Lowe's in the mid eighties. Still runs and does a great job on the drive and walk as well as edging planting beds. Take one of the very generous offers and every once in a while help somone else with a though edging job!!

Re: lawn edger question
When I was a kid my Dad had one like your first link, and he made me use it. I called it El Diablo....if well tuned, lubed and sharp it worked well...my Dad's was not.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around$100$150$200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: lawn edger question
I have one and IMO it works better (and quicker) than a string trimmer. It's more work, though! If you do it often, it is quick and easy, but I only do it once every year or so. The first time will be the hardest. It's one of the many ways I get my exercise via yard work :> The places I need to use it would be cumbersome with an electric, due to the distance from the house. And I _really_ don't want any more gas engines to maintain.

Re: lawn edger question
I have a steel blade, powered, edger but what I actually use is a string trimmer - gasoline powered. My lawn is pretty big, takes 1 to 1.5 hours to mow and another 45 minutes to edge. My gasoline line trimmer and chain saw need nearly no maintenance. They take a few pulls to start but generally work regardless of how long they've sat since the last use.

Re: lawn edger question
i have one like the second one, i can put off edgeing for 2 years and get centipeed sod to fill in other spots. a few swipes with a flat file every so often helps, but even that maintance can be put off.
