miter station almost done
I decided to build a flat station all the way across rather than sink a portion of it for the miter saw to live in. That way I could move it out of the way and use the counter space for other things. It also lets me move the miter saw to the left or right, depending on where I need the support. Being on a laminate top, it's very slick and it's very easy to move. I wasn't planning on owning a Kapex, but one landed in my lap at a price too good to be true so I felt kinda obligated to make a decent station for it, hehe.
this is the station setup. I got the Kreg Top Trak system when Hartville had their huge sale. The right side is a 6 ft section. I have another 2 foot section being painted for the left side, if needed they can hook together to make an 8 foot section.
this is everything stowed away to open up counter space for other uses
the plan was to have things lock down to these tracks running the length of the counter top to keep them stable when in use. I can also lock a kreg jig, work sharp, grinder etc to the table.
I built in a bunch of small bins to hold screws and stuff. I liked how it turned out. If I need to I can build another section mimicing the miter rails and attach it to the wall.
I think I almost have enough horizontal space in my garage shop to feel comfortable in. Thats been my biggest problem, preparing stuff for my project then having to move them around to use what they were being stored on.

Excellent work, Steve!

Re: miter station almost done
I really like some of your ideas. I may incorporate a few when I get ready to do my miter saw station.

Very nice, Steve. I like the way you've maximized the use of space. Nothing wasted.

BillI'll gladly tell you how I do something. Just please don't confuse that with the right way to do it, and almost certainly not the only way..gif)

Re: miter station almost done
What a cool setup there, Steve!

All of that small box storage is a great feature.
I just wish that I could be that organized. I usually start out ok, then end up mixing all of the small parts up and then can't find them until I make my trip to the h/w store!
So how is that Kapex? Looks like you maybe gave it a workout.
Thanks for sharing all of the great ideas!

That's a great looking setup. Lot's of good ideas for us to steal.

Re: miter station almost done
Cool station there Steve. I need to build a miter station as well. Think for dust collection though I am going to have to design more of an enclosure at the rear to capture dust spray.
Your miter saw probably has hands down the best footprint and dust collection capabilties out there for that type of saw.
I like my new Makita a lot, but a better station than where its mounted now is definitely needed. Thanks for sharing your project. Looks very functional and clean.

Re: miter station almost done
I really like the modular approach to your new Kapex house, i.e. building the raised platform seperate from the base. Nice job, too, by the way! You might have noticed that my Kapex currently resides on a Ridgid MS-UV, and I've wanted to build a sturdier base for a long time.
Building another table, then having to move it cross-country, didn't make much sense to me, but your plan makes sense. Thanks for knocking my thinking out of the box where it belongs.

Nice job! That ended up looking really nice! I really like the cubby space built in.
Alot of T track too!
Can't wait to see it live.
Nice backend Kapex Gloat (Stealth Gloat).
