    Drawer slide tolerance question

Most of the slides I've looked at quote a 1/2" spacing on each side. A few have 1/2" + 1/32", although the description on one says standard 1/2" spacing. I'm confused by the extra 1/32" - does each side require 17/32", or is there 1/32" of slop in the slide?

Some of the slides instructions state a 1/32 plus tolerance and 0 minus tolerence--------or visa versa. It is not a lot of tolerance either way.

Ditto Jerry's comments. You can get away with an extra 1/32", sometimes even a 1/16", but they will not work with anything less than the 1/2" allowance on each side.

I learned this the hard way.

And when making drawers, be sure to adjust for the allowance of the drawer slides the right way when using MS Excel to calculate your measurements. Not too awful long ago I made 14 drawers 1 inch too large. :-(

The needed clearance can range from 1/2" to 17/32". (i.e. yes, there is a 32nd slop in the slide mech.)

I agree with everything above. Just don't go under the 1/2" and you will be fine.

    Re: Drawer slide tolerance question

If you don't allow the 1/32 clearance each side then you could have some problems.Unless its one of the few projects that has a 100% square drawer box, cabinet opening and cabinet installation.Just that little bit of clearance will give enough wiggle room if everything isn't square.
