Determining Drawer Slide Lengths?
I am working on fairly simple project that will contain one drawer (about 34" wide and 16" deep). I would like to use some of the drawer slides that I have here, if possible.
Which raises my question. How do you decide what length of Accuride slide I should use. Would I typically use a 14" or a 16" full extension slide?
Also. Once the length is selected, where on the drawer side should it mount? Middle, top or bottom of the side?
(I haven't made the drawer as yet and I do know that I need to allow about 1/2" on each side for the slide hardware.)
Never worked with these slides and thought I would throw the question out to you all.
Thanks in Advance for any and all insight!

Re: Determining Drawer Slide Lengths?
16" would be my choice for full extention slides. you can mount them wherever they look good to you. just keep in mind leaving clearance under the drawer. if there ae more than one you would make them mount the same distance up from the bottom so they all look the same. if you have 14" slides already they can be used but you wont get the full extension

Re: Determining Drawer Slide Lengths?
My $0.02 on this...
You can build a 16" drawer with a 16" slide. Maximum space and opening.
You can build a 16" drawer with a 14" slide. Maximum space, but the last two inches won't be accessible. That may not be important.
You can build a 14" drawer with a 14" slide. Less storage space, but fully accessible. But, it means the slides must be attached to the sides of the case, you can't fasten it to the face frame and back. Depending on the design, that may not matter.
For a single drawer, I'd mount it in the center. That has the most symmetrical look. For a whole bank of drawers, you could align the slides with the bottom, although I'm not sure what the advantage of that would be.

Re: Determining Drawer Slide Lengths?
Fred & Bas.
This helps me immensely!
The way you are talking, I should dive into my 16" stash.
I'll get busy building that drawer this weekend and see how "it all comes together". It'l be an afternoon's work for me!
Thanks again for the quick response.
Closing the thread.....go my answer!
